      "Pop on the chasm" 4

This is the new solo (pop?) album by Sakamoto after many years. The last was Smoochy in the far 1995. Between these two albums there are many differences...and not. The genre: experimental pop. Also Smoochy was a bit on the experimental side, but the pop element was evident. In this last work the pop side is a bit low in favour of the experimental one. This doesn't mean that is worse than Smoochy, but quite different. So you must be prepared to listen with a different approach to another kind of pop music. Since 10 years has passed, Ryuichi is grown musically and artistically and his tastes are changed. This time He pushes him forward and compose some particular tracks (coro, war & peace, only love can conquer hate, +pantonal, 20msec. and lamento) and some exquisite pop songs (undercooled, chasm, World Citizen, Ngo and Seven samurai theme). So this is an album that melt forefront music and nostalgic pop with great capacity. If you buy "Chasm", you will not be certainly disappointed. And don't forget the presence of his long date friends David Sylvian and Arto Lindsay. A very good work. Bravo Ryuichi.
