A live album is a great responsibility for a performer of any genre. Here ELP at the peak of their performing form. A very good selection of tracks. Excellent record for those years. Lack of concert "garbage". The design of the original cover is beautifully restored. Class!

Customer Reviews
The late 60s and early 70s saw the birth of Progressive or Prog Rock. Prog Rock is and was a sort of mixing of rock and classical music. One of the first highly successful bands in this genre was Emerson, Lake, and Palmer. In addition, they were one of rock's first "Supergroup", bringing together keyboardist Keith Emerson of the Nice, guitarist and bassist Greg Lake from King Crimson, and Carl Palmer from Atomic Rooster. In the early 70s, ELP came to prominence with their self-titled debut album, their second album "Tarkus", and "Trilogy", the third album by the "Supergroup". But, it was the 1973 album, "Brain Salad Surgery", that many argue was their pinnacle. "Welcome Back My Friends to the Show that Never Ends,...." is the album that documents the tour that supported BSS. The recording contains live versions of all but one of the tracks on BSS. In addition, the main suite from "Tarkus" and several songs from "Trilogy" and the self-titled debut are represented. The album spotlights exactly how talented these three musicians were, and how well they melded into an extremely cohesive trio. The packaging is a very good replica of original, 3 LP set that was released in the fall of 1974. However, rather than the traditional mini lp this was issued in a 7 inch format as part of a larger set of their catalog, all in the 7 inch replica covers. The 3LPs have been condensed to a two CD set that has been given the SHM Platinum treatment, which was developed by JVC. The sound on these discs are excellent considering this is an almost 45 yr. old recording that, to the best of recollection, uses the 2011 remastering. Yes, you are treated to some of the best musicianship in the world "warts" and all. That being said the "warts" are few and far between. This is without a doubt, the best version of this recording.
Fantastic sound! The 7 inch mini LP covers are beautiful and I hope the Victor gives us more of these!
