Jesse Winchester +3 [Cardboard Sleeve] [Limited Release]

The great songwriter Jesse Winchester know, unfortunately, only a few. But the songs that he wrote in his Canadian exile are some of the best in the whole singer/songwriter scene. This is his first LP, produced by Robbie Robertson, filled with wistful memories of his home in the American South. Songs that express longing and homesickness as Biloxi or The Brand New Tennessee Waltz. It is a marvelous work, which would have earned a far greater recognition. This CD is the best sounding issue I ever heard of this album. LIsten, it's worth it!

Best remastered version ever, excellent instrument separation, with bright and clear sound, and noticeably better than the original LP which I still own. Some of the songs, such as "Yankee Lady," "Tennessee Waltz" and "Biloxi," are timeless, and the album has no bad songs. The 3 bonus cuts are live versions of three songs on the album, all with somewhat different arrangements from the album and, in contrast to superfluous bonus tracks on other albums, all here are worthwhile. As an aside, the album was (minimally) produced by Robbie Robertson ("The Band")with a raw and immediate presence created by a stellar cast of backing musicians and recorded in Canada, because Winchester was a Viet Nam draft dodger who wouldn't be able to travel again in his native U.S. until President Carter issued a pardon in the late 1970's.
