2001年にデビューし、20周年を迎えた山内惠介。2013年発売、「時代を超えた同歳(おないどし)」以来、約8年ぶりとなるカヴァーアルバム「Roots」。幼少の頃、親戚の前で歌い、歌うことの喜びを感じた「みだれ髪」、カラオケ大会で歌唱し、デビューのきっかけを掴んだ「男の劇場」を始め、父が好きだった曲、母が好きだった曲、兄弟の影響を受けた曲、初めて買った曲など、歌手: 山内惠介を形成する上で、影響を受けた楽曲の数々を全編上杉洋史アレンジによりカヴァー。オリジナルに忠実にアレンジされた楽曲のみならず、新たな感覚が注がれたことにより、オリジナルとは別の魅力が引き出され磨きのかかった楽曲にも注目。更に、初めて買ったCD「世界中の誰よりきっと」の作曲家である織田哲郎作曲によるオリジナル新曲も収録。山内惠介の新境地が表現されたラブソングになっている。
