[Light Mellow presents J-FUSION Renaissance Color Vinyl Reissue Series, Vol. 3] Japanese crossover/fusion is red-hot once again! As an offshoot or extension of the globally popular City Pop reappraisal, Japanese fusion has surged back into the spotlight since around last year. Leading names such as Masayoshi Takanaka, Jun Fukamachi, and Casiopea are all highly popular, along with acts once appreciated mainly by connoisseurs at the time, such as The Players, Himiko Kikuchi, and NORIKI, as well as the avant-garde likes of Mariah and Ryo Kawasaki. It should still be fresh in memory that "CROSSOVER CITY," a joint compilation project by five major labels, was released and drew major attention. A particularly notable recent trend is the popularity of ambient and techno-leaning works, and works enjoyed as background listening in the manner of a soundtrack. As the listener base has expanded significantly to include younger generations, old preconceptions about crossover/fusion have broken down, and the music is now being heard more freely, with fresh sensibilities. With this backdrop in mind, this lineup was selected from Universal Music's extensive catalog. This year has seen the publication of several Japanese fusion disc guides (one of them led by this series' supervisor, Toshikazu Kanazawa), and this reissue project ties in with that movement. Limited first pressing. Each title will be released on color vinyl that expands on the imagery of its jacket artwork. This color vinyl reissue series is the third installment, following the 7 titles released on June 24 and September 23. In addition, as a CD companion to this "Light Mellow presents J-FUSION Renaissance" project, the well-received early-1980s compilation "HORIZON DREAM vol.1-3" has been compiled onto a 2-CD set, and "HORIZON DREAM 2026," newly selected with a contemporary sensibility, was released on March 25. Samba Carioca began as an evolution of Kiyoshi Hasegawa's regular session band, and this is the second overall album released after the group renamed itself Carioca. Having shown their true colors in Brazilian music, particularly samba and bossa nova, they absorb a broader range of elements here, including jazz, pop, and rock, trying out a new approach to build an even more accessible crossover sound. In addition to the five original members, guests include Shuichi "Ponta" Murakami (ds), Kenji Omura (g), Hiroki Inui (kyd), Shigeharu Mukai (tb), Jake H. Concepcion (sax), and Bread & Butter (cho). [Light Mellow presents J-FUSION Renaissance カラー・ヴァイナルリイシュー第3弾] 今また、日本のクロスオーヴァー/フュージョンが熱い! 世界的ブームになったシティポップ再評価からの発展系、もしくはスピンオフ現象として、昨年あたりからジャパニーズ・フュージョンが急浮上。高中正義、深町純、カシオペアあたりを筆頭に、当時は好事家の間での評価に止まったザ・プレイヤーズ、菊池ひみこやNORIKI、前衛的とされたマライアや川崎燎なども、一様に人気が高い。メジャー・レーベル5社による共同企画のコンピレーション『CROSSOVER CITY』がリリースされ、大きな脚光を浴びたことも記憶に新しいはず。特に近年の傾向として特徴的なのが、アンビエントやテクノ系の作品や、サウンドトラックのようにBGM的に聴く作品。リスナーの世代が若者たちに大きく広がった影響で、クロスオーヴァー/フュージョンに対する既成概念が崩壊し、より自由に、新しい感性で聴かれるようになった。そうした現状を踏まえ、ユニバーサル・ミュージックの豊富なカタログからセレクトしたのが、今回のラインナップ。今年はジャパニーズ・フュージョンのディスクガイドが複数刊行され (一冊は本シリーズ監修者: 金澤寿和が主導)、その動きに連動しての復刻企画になる。初回生産限定プレス。それぞれジャケット・アートワークのイメージを拡げてくれるカラー・ヴァイナルでのリリースとなる。このカラー・ヴァイナルリイシューは、6月24発売、9月23日発売の7タイトルに続いて今回が第3弾。また、この「Light Mellow presents J-FUSION Renaissance」のCD企画として、80年初頭に発売されて好評を得たコンピレーション「HORIZON DREAM vol.1-3」をCD2枚組に集成、そして新たに今の感覚で選曲された「HORIZON DREAM 2026」が3月25日にリリースされている。総合監修: 金澤寿和 ■長谷川きよしのレギュラー・セッションが進化してスタートしたサンバ・カリオカが、カリオカに改名して発表した通算2作目。ブラジル音楽、とりわけサンバやボサノヴァに真骨頂を見せてきた彼らが、ジャズやポップス、ロックなど、より広範なエレメントを吸収消化。更に聴きやすいクロスオーヴァー・サウンドを構築すべく、新たな打ち出しにトライしている。5人のオリジナル・メンバーに加え、村上"ポンタ"秀一 (ds)、大村憲司 (g)、乾裕樹 (kyd)、向井滋春 (tb)、ジェイク・H・コンセプション (sax)、ブレッド&バター (cho)らがゲスト参加。イヴァン・リンスのカヴァーも。クリア・オレンジ・ヴァイナル (63-D01)。プロデューサー: 多賀英典 リマスター&カッティング: 北村勝敏 (Mixer's Labo)
