This release is very disappointing in most terms. My 2001 Island Remaster is pretty much superior in most aspects. Some differences noted are that the new flat file remaster lacks the punch that made this group famous so much so that the bass is nearly edited from the master. Also noted that compared with the Island Remaster 2001 that the volume was dramatically lower and the volume knob needed a real kick to get any impact which then increases the treble preponderance which is not how Rock music should be. The voices were reedier and lacked presence that Paul Rogers demands. The kick drum on some tracks is almost not present. The voice had more noticeable studio echo which may be how the original tapes presented the vocal but this should not be interpreted as "more detail". This was Free's earliest studio album and I was looking for a step up from the 2001 remaster which was quite a reasonable sound but this SHM-CD version delivers no major improvements on this album. I have found that these flat file remasters are very variable with some being improvements but other particularly disappointing. This album is definitely in the latter camp. Now onto "Free" which is not nearly as disappointing but pop over to that disc for the details of my review.

Great mini sleeve. Sound is smoother and better separation of instruments comported to the 2001 Remaster. So Far all of these flat transfers sound really great!
