Four major Beethoven sonatas by Goulda, one of the most famous pianists of the 20th century, who passed away in 2000 at the age of 69. Goulda recorded the first complete Beethoven piano sonatas in the 1950s, but the four pieces recorded here are from the second complete Beethoven sonata cycle, which was recorded at once from July 1967 to 1988. The performances are highly accomplished, clearly expressing the character of each piece. This is a masterpiece of Beethoven's sonatas and should be chosen as the first recording.
