Maria Duenas is a violinist from Spain. She won first prize and the audience award at the 2021 Yehudi Menuhin International Competition and drew worldwide attention at a stroke. Combining advanced technique with rich expressive power, she is highly regarded as a figure who will carry the next generation. This work centers on Korngold's "Violin Concerto" and Lalo's "Symphonie espagnole," performed together with the Simon Bolivar Symphony Orchestra (Venezuela) conducted by Gustavo Dudamel, and also includes exquisite short pieces by Debussy and Ponce. From the grand concertos to the intimate short pieces, it is a disc that concentrates the many facets of the appeal of Duenas. Behind this work is the presence of Jascha Heifetz (1901-1987), the "king of violinists," whom Duenas reveres as a role model. Strongly influenced by the celebrated recordings of Lalo and Korngold that Heifetz made in the early 1950s, Duenas includes "Estrellita," "La chevelure" and "La plus que lente," which are among his representative repertoire. These three pieces were furthermore recorded on the 1731 Stradivarius "Heifetz, Piel" once used by Heifetz, conveying a deep connection with his artistic legacy.
