Description
[Machine Translation] Alan Curtis, a baroque music specialist extraordinaire, sheds light on a forgotten operatic masterpiece. Curtis' latest work is Handel's 13th opera, Floridante, which was premiered in London in 1721 and is steeped in "sex, violence, lust, jealousy, and treachery. The only available recording of the complete work is the Maggie Gunn & Cappella Savaria recording on the Hungatron label (imports only), a rare work that is austere and full of introspection with few flashy or gaudy arias. This is also the first recording of the piece in its new version, which was altered before its premiere due to a change in singers and reconstructed to the form Handel originally intended. The recording proves the exquisite casting abilities of the cast, which includes the very best of today's baroque opera singers, such as Miyanovich, DiDonato, Priante, and Invernizzi. Recorded in Italy, September 2005
