The first Chico Hamilton Quintet album for Pacific Jazz is one of the most important debut albums of any group in jazz history. With Buddy Collette on reeds and Jim Hall on guitar, the group's playing was unceasingly sublime. This, the second album by the group, is its equal from every standpoint--repertoire, musicianship and sound quality. For reasons I can't fathom, neither album has ever been reissued on CD in America, except as part of a Mosaic box set. Yet they have almost always been in print in Japan where they obviously hold places of deep distinction with jazz fans. This bargain-priced edition of the second album features 24-bit mastering and consummate sound--all for a bargain price.
