Description

[Machine Translation] [Toho DVD Masterpiece Selection] A masterpiece by a master filmmaker that warmly captures the love and happiness of three generations. --Yae (Chikage Awashima), a widow in a farming family, meets a newspaper reporter, Okawa (Isao Kimura). Yae asks Okawa to introduce her brother Wassuke's (Nakamura Tanjiro) eldest son, Hatsuji (Kobayashi Keiki), as a potential bride, but Wassuke has a hard time making money for Hatsuji's wedding. In a bright poetic sentiment, the film depicts the head of the family, his daughter-in-law, mother-in-law, and sons, who are born out of the differences of the times. Since the story spans the four seasons, they shot a scene in early spring for two days during the shooting of the previous film, "Kyokko". This is Mikio Naruse's first color, widescreen film.
