A soul-stirring story of life is born at last. The original work is the "Hodonaku, Owakare desu" series, the debut work of Amane Nagatsuki. Under the supervision of Yoshikazu Okada, a master of human drama, the screenplay was woven into a moving story by Takaaki Honda, who has worked on many quality productions centered on television drama series, while director Takahiro Miki, who has led numerous youth films such as "Even If This Love Disappears from the World Tonight" (2022) to major hits, drew on the culmination of his experience so far to elevate this work into an overwhelming human drama for all generations. Misora Shimizu (Minami Hamabe) has suffered defeat after defeat in her job hunt and cannot find a place of her own. She has a power she can confide to no one, that she can hear the voices of those who have died. Then an encounter that changes her fate comes to Misora. Reiji Urushibara (Ren Meguro), a funeral planner who notices her secret, tells her that she should make use of that ability and invites her onto the path of a funeral planner. As if led there, Misora becomes an intern at the funeral company Bando Kaikan and teams up with Urushibara, and his strict guidance, so flawless that it seems almost cold, nearly breaks her spirit. At the same time, however, she comes to see that he stays closer to the deceased and the bereaved than anyone, and she grows to admire the way he gently says "Hodonaku, Owakare desu," meaning that it is nearly time to say farewell, as the coffin leaves. Before long the two face the funerals of all kinds of families. A husband who has lost his pregnant wife, a couple who have lost their young daughter, a man who could not be at the side of the person he loved most because they lived apart. As they touch the deep losses that each of them carries, Misora keeps facing, together with Urushibara, the question of what a funeral that satisfies not only the bereaved who remain but also the deceased should be. And following in his footsteps, she resolves to aim to become a funeral planner herself. Urushibara too gradually comes to feel trust as he sees Misora this way, and the two set out for the finest send-off, one that connects the feelings of those left behind and those departing.
