Godzilla [Blu-ray]

Video - 4/5: The video quality is very nice, with the picture looking quite crisp for most of the scenes feature Godzilla, while some of the grainy scenes seemed to be really vibrant with grain. While the movie was filmed with grain, I do not remember it being that noticeable on the Region 2 DVD disc, but then, I have not watched this movie in about five years, so my memory of the ones video may be rusty. Still, the video was excellent and there were some more details in the background I had never noticed before (such as the Ghostbusters symbol). Audio - 5/5: Once again the audio is just simply incredible. Since I ended up watching it late at night, I had my receiver cranked down a lot lower than I would have preferred, but to my surprise, I could hardly tell a difference. The dialog was clear and never got drowned out by the sound effects, which were also incredible themselves. The rear speakers seemed to have gotten a great amount of use out of this movie, which I was pleasantly surprised with. If there is anything to complain audio wise, it deals more with the movie itself, as the score to this movie is quite bland, especially the scenes with Godzilla. Extras - 4/5: Pretty much the same as the REgion 2 DVDs extras, commentary, a Making Of feature, and trailers. Overall: While Godzilla 1984 is not the greatest Godzilla movie ever made, it seems to get better with each repeated viewing. Due to the fact that this movie has never made its way to DVD at all in the US in any format, this Blu-Ray should be a no brainer to any Godzilla fan, as it is the one that started the Heisei series and it leads directly into Godzilla vs Biollante. If you have the money, definitely pick this movie up, as the Blu-Ray will not disappoint.
