Jimi Hendrix, the revolutionary guitarist. This release features the 1st Show from the two performances held on May 30, 1970 at the Berkeley Community Theatre in Berkeley, California, on the U.S. West Coast, about four months before Hendrix's death on September 18, 1970. The 2nd Show had previously been released as "Live at Berkeley," but the 1st Show had never been released as an official album until now. Newly mixed by Eddie Kramer, Hendrix's own engineer, it is finally being released as a long-awaited first official audio release. The setlists for the two shows were completely different. This performance captures the overwhelming drive of "Johnny B. Goode," the deep blues condensed into "Hear My Train A Comin'" and "Red House," the tense improvisation of "Machine Gun," and the creative energy of new songs such as "Freedom" and "Ezy Ryder," vividly showing Hendrix stepping into a new musical world. With Mitch Mitchell, drummer of the original Experience, and Band of Gypsys bassist Billy Cox, Hendrix re-formed The Jimi Hendrix Experience. Long regarded by many fans as one of the finest performances from Hendrix's final years, this "phantom live show" is finally available after never receiving an official complete release for many years.
