This album is a must have for any music lover and to hear McLaughlin/Goodman/Hammer playing off each other is stunning - the title track "Birds Of Fire" and "Open Country Joy" being but two examples - backed by one the finest and surely tightest rhythm sections ever in drummer extraordinaire Billy Cobham, and Northern Irish bassist Rick Laird.

Features some of the most powerful instrumental jazz. First track opening is overpowering from the front left speaker. Gradually each group in the orchestra joins in, channel by channel. My favorite is track two. The stereo imaging in the front two channels is excellent and well complimented by the surrounds. Enjoying these reissues in quad and SACD.
