The Marrow of a Bone [Limited Edition] Customer Reviews
Dir en grey
Not many people liked this album. They say that Diru is either selling out or sound to "American". But I think this album is a good example of the bands growth. I think its a great new album from a wonderful band. The album is really good and the bonus disk is beautiful.
well this album was very heavy but i loved it and i thnk this album is a big F*** YOU to all the DeG haters just becuase there is a lot of insults lol
It is NO question that Dir en grey just knows how to make good music. But whether or not you would like this cd is really based on what kind of music you prefer. Personally, I've been a fan of Diru for a long time, and The Marrow of a Bone is more American rock influenced. It's very heavy but still a good cd if you like that particular genre. It deff not a bad cd by any means but personally not my favorite.
I don't like all the song of this album, their's some I really don't like, and some I love, I really like conceived sorrow, the 9, and the new version of clever sleazoid is really good (exept the fact we less understand what he sing in english). And I like ryoujouku no ame. The bonus CD is good, I love the new version of conceived sorrow ! I like this album, but, I think it's the wrost album made by dir en grey (after the remix album, sure)
The Cd was alright, Withering to Death was their best. Grief was too loud and swore to much but it was a good song. Agitated Screams of Maggots takes getting used to. But Kyo killed Cleaver Sleazoid. The best song on the Cd was murdered by a singing difference from how it was on the single to the raspy screaming. Other than killing my favorite song by them though, the Cd was good.
This CD was great. But I can't say it was their best CD in my book. I like almost everything Diru has produced but Kyo could let up on the screaming a little bit in The Marrow of A Bone. And the bonus CD....it was good that they did different things with the songs but it did kind of get repetitive x.x. Also I wouldn't feel right without commenting on Shinya's drumming, I thought it was really good and I hope to hear more wonderful drumming in Dozing Green.
This is one of the best albums of Dir en grey because it's so heavy. <3 :)
Marrow of the Bone was sure to divide the fan-base with their hair raising turn to a more stripped down, aggressive, driven metal sound. Fans of their earlier more studio-rock driven days wont appreciate this CD as much as someone such as myself whose been a fan of this style of music all along. Harder, Faster, Heavier...and its all good to me. This CD is evidence of their time spent out on the road traveling across America on tour, and it shows, its best live...and fondly reminiscent at home.
This is undoubtedly Dir en Grey's best album yet! They really show that they can rock out hard yet at the same time preserve a tenderness which is not common in hard rock of this nature. The limited edition, with its 3 track acoustic album, is perhaps the highlight of this release. Dir en Grey has selected three songs (two of my favorites, incidentally) from the album and has rerecorded them with acoustic instruments, providing a very different sound from the original. This sound is one that I hope Dir en Grey will explore in the future.
I've deliberately waited a long time before writing a review of Dir en grey's latest album, THE MARROW OF A BONE. After hearing it the first time I knew there was so much more to discover and after listening to it for 5 months, I can assure you there is. Due to the limit of words that can be fit into a review, I can't go into detail on why I think every song on this album is sheer exellence. CONCIEVED SORROW is their greatest opening song ever. LIE BURIED WITH A VENGEANCE, THE FATAL BELIVER and GRIEF are some of their most aggressive songs ever. DISABLED COMPLEXES is a rollercoaster of extreme emotions. Track 9 is definitely the most emotional song while THE PLEDGE has been added to Dir en grey's evergrowing list of best songs. AGITATED SCREAMS OF MAGGOTS sounds even better with the rest of the new album and the studio version of RYOUJOKU NO AME is superior to the single with better balance on the instruments. The re-recording of CLEVER SLEAZOID is nowhere near as good as the original, but it's a nice bonus. All the praise you've heard about the unplugged disc is true, it's a real gem. THE MARROW OF A BONE has definitely been worth the wait and has a darkness with unlimited depth.
It really isn't fair to rate this since I haven't listened to the album much. The unplugged was great Kyo once again puts his body & soul into it. But when it comes to the actual album I don't know it's a real departure from their previous works. While Vulgar & Withing to death were americanized it still had some of that old DEG feeling, with moab I'm not feeling it.
Hello thank u the cd came in great no scartches nothing i love the cd thank u again and i will be buying plenty of more stuff from cd japan ^_^ ~Monique
It is Dir en grey's best CD yet. Anyone thinking about buying this album should pick up a copy today!
Wow. All I can say is wow. This album is a definate 5 star for me and all my friends! Though some of the songs do sound a bit alike, THE PLEDGE and Namamekashiki Ansoku, Tamerai ni Hohoemi really change that state of mind. The album starts with 'Concieved Sorrow' putting off a dreary, depressed state of mind just to get you into the mood. Next, LIE BURIED WITH A VENGEANCE totally shakes you, from the sadness before to the anger now! Kyo and Diru never cease to amaze me. THE FATAL BELIEVER is an amazing song, my favorite. I especially loved the re-recording to my favorite song, Clever Sleazoid. Even the bonus disk was amazing. I really did like the changes to Conceived Sorrow, they reminded me like creepy music but still had the same haunting and sad feel. THE PLEDGE was very heart shaking, along with Namamekashiki Ansoku, Tamerai ni Hohoemi and its beautiful piano works. (RECOMENDED TRACKS: THE FATAL BELIEVER, Ryoujoku no Ame, Concieved Sorrow, The Deeper Vileness, THE PLEDGE and Namamekashiki Ansoku, Tamerai ni Hohoemi)
Before receiving my copy of TMOAB, I was particularly afraid that every song would sound like AGITATED SCREAM OF MAGGOTS. When I listened to the album for the first time, I was a little disappointed because I felt it was, musically, the same song over and over again. That being said, after listening to it many times over I've realized that all the songs are very different. I've come from feeling the album is mediocre to feeling it is one of the best purchases I've made. I love that this album does not sound like any of their previous works. The bonus disk is the cherry on top of a pretty wicked cake. It perfectly balances out the full album's raw energy with a sound that is more polished and classical. This album is a must-buy for any fan that likes Dir en grey's continuous evolution.
Great... my favorite since Gauze... actualy, after seing the live in Hyogo this became one of my fav Dir CDs... specialy like The pledge, Conceived sorrow and Grief... the cd extra is great... After 2 albums I didn't specialy like its amazing to listen to this cd... even better live :) Just buy it!!!! Dir are back!!!!!!!!
My favorite songs by Dir en grey have always been their most passionate, poignant pieces. Embryo, Mazohyst of Decadence, and others with such messages. I was disappointed severely with the Vulgar album, because it sounded like a typical metal group that had lost touch with its love for music and was trapped in a commercial world. And with Withering to Death, I really thought that this band, one of my very favorites, was going down the drain. That being said, I am highly, highly pleased with this new album. It is packed full of passion and emotion, and Kyo's voice directly reflects how much he has matured and experienced as a person, and how much the band, in itself, has grown and moved into full bloom. The even flow is absolutely gorgeous and I can't keep it out of my CD player. Truly touching, and beautiful, even inside of its darkness and devastation. But isn't that what has always made Dir en grey beautiful?
The CD opens up with a slower piece, CONCEIVED SORROW. The feel of crucification in this song is apparent. Very grotesque in nature, the taunting flick of the occasional piano keys and the hidden background guitar rifts make the song sinister and help accompany it with a feeling of dark beauty. Toshiya's skill as a bassist shines in how well he's able to produce low chords on the bass to follow in sync with the pounding of the drums. Kyo's cryptic vocals are sure to provoke goosebumps throughout this entire song, and maybe one or two tears. However, it's more goosebumps I felt arise than anything else just by this opening piece. A dark, rich, and beautifully morbid ballad that will have you slowing yourself down and listening as intently as possible. A great piece to draw you into the album. CONCEIVED SORROW is alive with the sense of suffering and moral starvation. Kyo's passion slowly comes to life during this song, and you can hear the evolution as a vocalist in his voice. Buy the album to embrace the changes of this band. Recommended tracks: CONCEIVED SORROW, DISABLED COMPLEXES, ROOTING ROOT, THE PLEDGE, Namamekashiki Ansoku, Tamerai ni Hohoemi, GRIEF, REPETITION OF HATRED.
Being that this album was coming from Dir en grey, I had extremely high expectations. It only led to major disappointment. Problem #1: The songs do not have their own distinct sound. Diru used to be exellent with variation. Practically every song of Marrow of a Bone blends with the next track. What happened to the creativity we all fell in love with? Problem #2: Kyo does not sing. He screams and scream-raps. Problem #3: I CAN'T READ THE LYRICS! The background is black, and the writing is such a dark shade of grey that the lyric book cannot be read. It is then worthless, since every page is essentially black and features hardly any photos. A waste of trees. Problem #4: It's bad when you can't see the lyrics; It's even worse when you can't hear them and distinguish between the words. Problem #5: It's pathetic when a bonus disc is better than the actual CD. It's the only thing saving my rating from a 1 star. I don't see the logic in purchasing this album over one from a local band. I know, "Beacuse it's Diru!!". Hate to tell you, but they now sound like every generic metal band out there. Skip this album unless your set on having every of Dir en grey's releases.
