Brahms: Klavierkonzert No.1/handel-variationen [Limited Release]

[Machine Translation] [Kemp Masterpieces 1000] German pianist Wilhelm Kemp ( 1895-1991 ) excelled at classical and romantic repertoire such as Beethoven, Brahms, and Bach. To commemorate the 30th anniversary of his death, the "Kemp Masterpieces 1000" series is being released as an encore pressing. Kemp made a rare recording in Dresden, East Germany. The two orchestras performed together were the Dresden State Orchestra, which had retained its old German tone, and Franz Konwitschny, a master conductor of the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra at the time, who had the entire East German music world under his control. Their once-in-a-lifetime encounter rings out as a spectacular performance. Kemp's performance is unusually passionate and dramatic, supported by the orchestra's perfect ensemble playing, which fully expresses the power of the strings. This purely German means of expression, which does not allow for even a single note of compromise, is almost unheard of in today's music world, and it is regrettable that this is the only recording they have made. [Performed by] Wilhelm Kemp (piano), Dresden State Orchestra (Op. 15), Conductor: Franz Konwitschny (Op. 15) Recorded: May 1957, Dresden; January 1957, Hannover (monaural recording)
