G-S1 Flat Eye Shadow Brush / Houkodou SORA Brilliant Gold Series / Canadian Squirrel Customer Reviews

I have to say that this brush picks up color very nicely and blends it with ease. I love the size, I love the shape, I love the fact that it has medium hair density. It’s perfect for the “one and done” type of eyeshadow look. Overall it’s a good eye brush, but the bristles don’t feel as soft as gray squirrel ones do. So, keep that in mind if you have sensitive eyes.

I bought the G-S2 brush first and was blown away with not only the softness of the Canadian Squirrel hairs, but also the product pick up and lay down. So I decided to try the G-S1. This is a very large eyeshadow brush (20mm long), but the hairs are silky soft and it has good density to it. I prefer this over the Eihodo S-1 - that brush is thinner and feels a bit...flimsier in comparison to this brush. Very good at blending, very good at one and done shadows. If you have small eyes - this is not the brush for you. (Go buy the G-S2 instead!) I'm so happy I have this brush in my collection.

I wish I had bigger eyes to do justice to this brush. Still, I reach for it often and enjoy the experience. Great with matte shades and so soft and gentle to the eye. The tapered tip enables targeted coloring. Has not shed a single hair. No regrets.

In short supply of Canadian squirrel hair, even Houkodou can't keep its quality as before. Here I agree with Julie, the other reviewer, it's not as soft. Maybe there is a batch difference. I noticed that the previous 2-star review was left on 2020/11/24, the hair was probably collected in summer or autumn; whereas the 5-star review trying to say something good for G-S1, was left on 2021/04/30, assuming the hair was collected in winter. So either try to order your brush in late spring when the winter stock is not running out yet, or go ahead with G-S2, with shorter, darker and sleeker hair. And I don't agree with A from Canadian, G-S1 is totally different from G-S2, you must have received a wrong brush. G-S1 is 3 times the size of G-S2, considering the length, the width and the volume. My G-S1 is yellow, crispy and somehow rough. It's good for a wiping of base color, but not good for sensitive eyelids, at all. I can use it, but I don't like it.

Sorry to see about the previous reviewer getting a bad one, but luckily mine is really soft and excellent! I thought it was the G-S2 at first, and they'd just forgotten to send the right one - they are similar in size - however I love this one MORE! I love the G-S2 and got backups but I wish I'd tried this first, as I'd have spent the backup money on this instead. Mine is almost the same size as the G-S2, I don't know if that is true for every brush as the pictures made it seem way bigger - however it's flat and the slightly bigger size helps as my eyes are not small... soooo smooth and even and I find it more precise for application for all over lid (like a smokey colour)! WHY do they make such good products, I never want to use anything else. I love this one SOOOOOOOO Much!!!!!

I'm in love with Houkodou Brilliant Gold series and this Canadian squirrel brush is just amazing. I adore this brush, it is soft and enough firm, perfect for layering colour and blend it as well, great universal size for me. It is one of my absolute favourite eye brush!

As far as the type of the hair goes, this one does not meet the standard, rough and dry--not sure just the batch of hair i got on this brush, i would advise you to take the "grey" hair instead. i will be parting with mine soon...

A beautiful and excellent quality brush, best to apply eyeshadow base. I have similar one from hakuhodo made from blue squirrel, but this houkodou made from canadian squirrel is much more soft.

I love this brush. I really enjoy brushes of this shape and this one is very nice. The brush is bundled very nicely and the quality of the hair is top notch. I use it to place a transition color in and above my crease.

This was my first e/s brush by Houkodou purchased from CD Japan I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of craftsmanship. The brush head is a perfect size for laying down a wash of color, the softness of the hair is fabulous, I would recommend Houkodou brushes to anyone and this brush is a keeper

I was new to Houkodou when CD Japan started to offer them on their website. This brush was included in my very first Houkodou order. I was so pleased to find that the quality of Canadian Squirrel hair in their brilliant gold series e/s brushes are some of the best! Very soft, densely packed heads make putting on eyeshadow a breeze. I really find these are great value for the price. This brush is very similar in shape to Surratt's Classique Shadow Grande, but for almost half the price.

this can also be used as a highlight brush for the face! otherwise, it is a good brush to applying a wash of color to the eye quickly and the tip is good for blending eye shadow looks
