Description

[Machine Translation] Watsuji's main work depicting the development of ethical thought from ancient times to the modern era. This volume deals with the period from the Warring States period to the middle of the Edo period, a time of destruction of tradition and the establishment of a new class society. The ethics of this period of change is thoroughly deciphered, including the samurai's view of morality as seen in the family precepts of warring feudal lords, the introduction and suppression of Christianity, the shogunate's encouragement of Confucianism, and the Confucian studies of Nakae Fujiki, Kumazawa Bazan, Ito Insai, and others.
