It's listed on the CD-Japan website as a shonen; however, I believe it should be listed as a seinen. There is a lot of kanji most without furigana. In addition, the subject matter involves discussions between nobles and high level government figures. As you can see from the cover it's partially a military story which also means there is a lot of military terminology. I've been studying Japanese for 3 years and many of the kanji in the book were ones I've never studied in the past. Given what I've said I highly recommend this series. It exposed me to kanji and vocabulary that I'd, otherwise, not encounter in other books.
