ティーザー [SHM-CD+CD] / トミー・ボーリン
10代からプロギタリストとして活躍していたトミー・ボーリンは、いくつかのバンドを渡り歩き、凄腕ジャズ・ドラマー、ビリー・コブハムの名作「Spectrum」に参加したことで一躍脚光を浴びる。その評判を聞きつけ、当時リッチー・ブラックモアの後任を探していたDEEP PURPLEがトミーに加入を打診。2代目ギタリストとして最終的に抜擢される。1975年にリリースされたトミー参加後の初作品「Come Taste The Band」においては、トミーが作曲の中心を担う大抜擢振りだった。一方DEEP PURPLEのレコーディングとほぼ同時期に、トミーはデビュー・ソロ・アルバムのレコーディングを行っていた。それが本作品「Teaser」である。本作のレコーディング・メンバーには、ジェフ・ポーカロ、デイヴィッド・フォスター、ポール・ストールワース、デイヴィッド・サンボーン、グレン・ヒューズ、フィル・コリンズ、ナラダ・マイケル・ウォルデン、スタンリー・シェルドン、ヤン・ハマー他、現代のロック界において名立たるメンツが若き日に参加した作品。本作に収録されている楽曲は、ファンク、ジャズ、ロック、フュージョン、レゲエ等・・・一つの枠に捕らわれない彼の幅広い音楽性を極限まで披露した作品で、如何に彼の才能が当時から脚光を浴び注目されていたかが分かる。そしてインスト曲以外は全てトミーがヴォーカルも担当。その後DEEP PURPLEに加入したことで、相乗効果的に彼の評判は上がり、DEEP PURPLEが一度目の解散をした後にはセカンド・ソロ・アルバム「Private Eyes」をリリースしたものの、1976年に25歳という若さで早逝している。今回の再発に関し本作はDisc1の「Teaser」本編に加え、Disc2には当時のアウトテイクを収録した2枚組且つ紙ジャケット仕様でのリリースとなる。

The remastering is incredible. This is an analog recording from fifty years ago. Yet, is has great sound and no hiss, no dull high frequencies and deep bass. The songs are classic. This is some terrific rock music. The presentation excellent from this former member of Deep Purple who left us way too soon. The extra CD makes this a good value as well. Recommended.
