Asoma

[Machine Translation] Clan Caiman is a five-piece band formed by Argentine multi-instrumentalist Emilio Aro with the concept of "imagining music played by an imaginary tribe". Their debut album, Clan Caiman (2018), was widely heard by the likes of Hylamas, Videotapemusic, Tortoise, Tommy Guerrero, Martin Denny, and others. The second album, Asoma ("Rises" in English), is also a remarkable one, with Aro's original instrument ("kalimbaphone"), a modified kalimba, playing a key role in the ensemble, and hinting at an ethnicity of unknown origin. In the performance, evolution (deepening) in the direction of (intentional degeneration) can be heard. As Aro himself explains, "There are no vocals, cymbals, or fanfares," the eight pieces have a sense of metro-ethnicity that eschews the flashy arrangements or harmonic climaxes, and the soundscape of the performances is filled with a suspicious warmth and hypnotic quality. The binding design, again by Sebastian Duran and Ian Kornfeld, seals in the air of high humidity.
