Hijirimen Bakuto

[Machine Translation] [A beautiful female gambler, Oniyuri no Okatsu, is released from prison after serving a five-year sentence for killing San'emon, the head of the Enokiya family, out of a sense of duty and out of a desire to stay in one place and eat one meal. He is threatened by San'emon's daughter, Hiikara Onaka, but Okatsu sets off to visit Oshu, a daughter of the Edo Kogumi, whom he met while in prison and with whom he had an exchange of brotherly bonds. Okatsu and Omon are taken into the care of the Edo Yukigumi, but they become embroiled in a battle with the Shinkawa family, who are after the territory of the Edo Yukigumi.... Eiko Nakamura, who gave a fine performance in "Kigarashi Monjiro Sekiwari Gozen" (Monjiro Kigarashi Monjiro, Sekiwari Gozen), plays the female exponent Okatsu, and Reiko Ike plays the high-collar Onaka, who is after Okatsu. Bunta Sugawara appears as a washed-up businessman who has lost his job as a bouncer for the mob, and his invincible swordsmanship is mesmerizing. Set in the Kanto region in the mid-Meiji period (1868-1912), this is an authentic onnagata (female chivalry) film with brilliant action and a vast scale, centering on the naked lives of six female chivalrous men who are in the yakuza world, and incorporating the sorrow and eroticism of women caught between the waves of duty and human emotion.
