If the previous album "CORRIDA" was a rare groove "passionate" from the 70's, the second album "Destination" is the opposite, logical and "intelligent". The horn solo was the same as the last time. The horn solo is played by DAWN, a black female player who joined us last time. M2 is a standard jazz chord progression and rhythm, played by an absolutely impossible instrument. M3, which is obvious to the listener from the very beginning, is a pop melody overlaid on a rhythmic pattern that sounds like Brazilian composer Edu Lobo's work. M4 is a song that gives us a feeling of running sadness, which is the message of "rest in peace". M5 is a cover of COOL DRIVE's classic "Suitcase". The lyrics, which are inspired by the original lyrics but rewritten in her own style (a woman's response to "Suitcase"), are remarkable. ). By doubling the speed of the rhythm, the sound approach is interestingly different from the original, as in "One Nots Samba," where the rhythm is moving in contrast to the melody, which does not move. The five songs above are all SCAT FIREWORK's, and one after the other, they give us a sense of the possibilities of the band. 前作突如リリースされ、都内外資系ショップでバカ売れした1st 「CORRIDA」からわずか半年で2nd「Destination」発表!★apart.RECORDS初のラウンジユニットSCAT FIREWORKTがまたやってくれた。SCAT FIREWORKはサウンドメーカーCARIBAとヴォーカリストMINAが「SCATの可能性を追求してみたい」をテーマにSTARTしたプロジェクト。前作「CORRIDA」が70年代のレアGROOVEな『情熱的』ならば、2nd「Destination」は前作では表現できなかった逆の側面、ロジカルで『理知的』だ。M1は、古めかしいジャジーなギターに無機質なHOUSEっぽい雰囲気があり、そこにスウィングジャズ的なスキャットが絡んでくる。ホーンのソロは前回も参加してくれた黒人女性プレイヤーDAWNがプレイしている。ドナルド・バードを彷彿させる突き抜けていく雰囲気がたまらない。M2は、思い切りスタンダードなジャズのコード進行とリズムを、絶対あり得ない楽器でやる。「うまいもの」の中にいきなり「苦いもの」が入ってくる感覚だ。M3は、聴く人が聴けば、最初からバレバレだと思うが、ブラジルの作曲家エデュ・ロボがやるようなリズムパターンにポップなメロディが重なる。「明日のことを考えるよりも大事なのは今だよ」と訴えかけるような雰囲気は、今の日本人を捕らえてるのでは?M4は"rest in peace"というメッセージそのものの疾走する悲しみを感じさせてくれる。SCAT FIREWORK流のサウダージといった感じ。最後に飾るM5はCOOL DRIVEの名曲「スーツケース」のカバー。レーベルメイトでもある彼らの曲をフューチャーした。MINAが元の歌詞をモチーフにしつつも、自分流にストーリーを作り変えた歌詞(「スーツケース」に対する女性からの回答。)に注目。リズムを倍速にすることで、「One Nots Samba」の様な、動かないメロディに対してリズムが動いているという、オリジナルとは違うサウンドアプローチが面白い。以上全5曲、次々と可能性を感じさせてくれるSCAT FIREWORK。他アーティストのREMIX WORKのオファーもあり、2004年からは順次手掛けていく予定。彼らの活動に今後も注目!!
