ULTRAMAN (English Subtitles) Customer Reviews

Excellent value for every Ultraman fan, and English-speaking fans benenfit from the subtitled edition

C'est la premiere fois que je vois un ultraman et je n'ai pas trop accroche. Il faut tout de meme reconnaitre que les effets speciaux sont excellents

I loved this movie. There's more to being a hero than having special powers. The story really makes you feel for the different characters thrown into a situation that they never asked for. A part of the Ultraman Nexus universe, this movie is an excellent complement to the tv series.

Part of the Tsuburaya Production's "Ultra N Project", this theatrical release is an extremely entertaining production that should score not just with a hardcore fanbase but with the casual viewer too. "Ultraman" is also aimed at a more mature audience (although certainly not solely), featuring finer character development and more intense and dramatic situations than on any of the previous TV series. Ultraman's host himself (an especially well casted Tetsuya Bessho of "Godzilla and Mothra: the Battle for Earth" and, more recently, "Kaza No Haruka"'s fame) is thirty-something Air Force pilot Shinichi Maki, a married father of one who is torn between his parental duties and his responsibility to save the world. "Ultraman" boasts some rather impressive special effects (a blend of good CG and more practical visual effects) and the scenes that employ them are a real joy to watch. The first scene after Maki accepts the mission and takes to the skies as Ultraman is exhilarating. This is a highly recommended movie that might not convert the detractors of the kaiju genre but will certainly entertain the majority of those who will pick it.

Ultraman The Next is one of the best Tokusatsu movies out there. It's the story about the pilot Maki, who becomes Ultramans Host to fight against a evil space beast called "The One". The story is very simple, but it was executed very well. There are several moving subplots, an example is the subplot about Makis dying son, very moving. The effects are fantastic. Do you know Gamera 3? The effects are like that and the movie have the best air battle I have ever seen. The soundtrack is great too and it was composed by Tak Matsumoto from B'z. The final battle in Shinjuku is the best part of the movie. The SFX Team shows it skills. The budget was half of that, what Godzilla - Final Wars had and the effects of Ultraman are far superior. The DVD is great too. The Picture Quality is extremely sharp, you can see every singe detail. The Sound is fantastic too and the Extras are Making of, Trailers, and so on. The DVD includes very good english subtitles, I was very surprised how good they were. If you like Tokusatsu movies, Ultraman The Next is the movie for you. It's one of the best Toku movies out there, so don't miss it.
