その悲しみは心を濡らした。1994年4月、アフリカの大地で起こった人類最大の悲劇。生きるための選択は、そこにはなかった。ルワンダ国内の実際に事件の起きた学校でのオールロケを敢行し、虐殺の生存者が映画スタッフとして参加している真実の物語。日本公開時にはUNHCR(国連難民高等弁務官)駐日事務所、ルワンダ大使館も全面協力。「ホテル・ルワンダ」を始め「ラストキング・オブ・スコットランド」、「ブラッド・ダイヤモンド」等と並び、アフリカの真実を描いて高評価を受けた待望の作品がDVDリリース!! ――海外青年協力隊の英語教師としてジョー・コナーは、ルワンダの公立技術専門学校[ETO]に赴任した。1994年4月6日夜、フツ族出身の大統領の飛行機が何者かに撃墜され、それをきっかけにフツ族によるツチ族虐殺事件が起こる。一夜にして学校はツチ族の何千という難民の為の避難所となった。だが、世界はこの虐殺を黙殺し、国連治安維持軍(UN)は、ツチ族を助けようとせず、自衛するのみだった。そして国連軍がもうこれ以上難民を保護できないと手を引いた時、ジョーとクリストファー神父は人生最大のジレンマに立たされる。その場所を立ち去るべきか、ルワンダの人々を守る為に立ち上がるべきか・・・。
