Sounding the Space

[Machine Translation] Uheiji Nagano, one of the leading architects of the prewar period. His grandson, musician Marcos Fernandez. This documentary film follows his project to visit and perform at four of his grandfather's buildings: the Kyoto Culture Museum Annex (Kyoto), Okurayama Memorial Hall (Yokohama), Renesse Hall (Okayama), and Karakoro Kobo (Matsue). Directed by Hans Fjellestad, who directed the documentary "Moog" about electronic music pioneer Robert Moog. In addition to the performance at the Upeiji Nagano building, the film shows Marcos Fernandez making field recordings in the area he visited and interviews with experts on the building, conveying the history of the building and the local community and its relationship to the past and present. This documentary weaves together buildings and communities, architecture and music, and grandfathers and grandchildren.

戦前を代表する建築家・長野宇平治。その孫にあたるミュージシャン、マルコス・フェルナンデス。祖父の残した建築物、京都文化博物館別館(京都)、大倉山記念館(横浜)、ルネスホール(岡山)、カラコロ工房(松江) の4箇所を訪れ、パフォーマンスを行うプロジェクトを追ったドキュメンタリー・フィルム。監督には電子音楽のパイオニア、ロバート・モーグのドキュメンタリー"Moog"で指揮をとったハンス・フィエレスタッド。作中には長野宇平治建築物でのパフォーマンスの様子の他、訪れた地域でフィールド・レコーディングを行うマルコス・フェルナンデスの姿や建築物に纏わる専門家のインタビューを通じ、建物と地域社会の歴史や,昔と変わらぬ今の関わりなどを伝えている。建物と地域、建築と音楽、そして祖父と孫の紡ぐドキュメンタリー。
