Leopold van der Pals: Works

[Machine Translation] Born in St. Petersburg to a Dutch father and a Danish mother, van der Pals was born in St. Petersburg. He received musical instruction from his grandfather and began composing at the age of 12. He entered the St. Petersburg Conservatory, where he studied counterpoint and conducting. He made friends with Swiss composers and studied in Lausanne until 1907, when he moved to Berlin. The success of the premiere of his First Symphony, composed at the urging of his teacher Gliere, strengthened his resolve to pursue a career as a composer, and although his more than 300 works are all original and full of ideas, this album contains relatively early orchestral works, especially two symphonic poems, "Spring" and "Autumn". The two symphonic poems "Spring" and "Autumn" in particular are known as the works that suggested the direction of der Puls.
