40 years ago... July 2, 1986. A Wednesday. BOOWY (Kyosuke Himuro, Tomoyasu Hotei, Tsunematsu Matsui, Makoto Takahashi), a band that had surged up from the live house scene with rapidly rising popularity, held a one-man live at Nippon Budokan. That was the night when, late in the show, during the performance of "IMAGE DOWN," the famous line "Welcome to Live House Budokan!" rang out. Because this performance was sold out, in order to deliver the excitement of the live as quickly as possible to fans across the country who could not come to the venue, one month after the live it was released as the live album "GIGS" JUST A HERO TOUR 1986 in a special format in which all three kinds, record (green jacket) / CD (purple jacket) / cassette tape (red jacket), were record-box-sized and included a photo book, which was a surprise. This package was produced in a limited run of 100,000 sets and is a phantom item that sold out instantly at record shops nationwide. It was an era when live albums were said not to sell. Nevertheless, BOOWY's advance knew no bounds, and this work gained a premium on the secondhand market, becoming an exceptional release whose price soared to the outrageous range of 100,000 to 1,000,000 yen. After that, the band's albums "BEAT EMOTION" and "PSYCHOPATH" became big hits. BOOWY's presence became a social phenomenon, but the band, having reached the summit, declared its breakup at Shibuya Kokaido on December 24, 1987. On April 4 and 5, 1988, they held their final live at the just-completed Tokyo Dome. Although the band's form was gone, fans' demand for a reissue of the limited "GIGS" never ceased, and in 1989 "GIGS" JUST A HERO TOUR 1986 was reissued on CD and reached number one on the Oricon chart. Its final sales exceeded a cumulative 1.01 million copies. Ten years later, for BOOWY, who had not released a single best-of album until 1998, "GIGS" JUST A HERO TOUR 1986, on which one could savor the standard live songs at the peak of realism, became a trigger that accelerated the BOOWY myth for later fans who had wanted to see the live but could not, and an item that served as the decisive blow driving the legend forward. The legendary live album "GIGS" JUST A HERO TOUR 1986 pushed the Japanese rock scene into the mainstream. Afterward, in 1989 only the CD was reissued in a standard-format package, and further, on December 24, 2012, "GIGS" JUST A HERO TOUR 1986 NAKED, a complete edition containing all the songs performed at Nippon Budokan, was released. And now, in 2026, the 40th anniversary of that legendary Budokan show, Tatsuya Sakamoto, who handled the mixing and mastering engineering of BOOWY's many albums, has newly remastered both the 1986 ORIGINAL version and the 2012 NAKED version. That night's performance comes back to life in even higher-quality, state-of-the-art mastering sound! The "3 DISC LP" and the "COMPLETE BOX" each include a reproduction of the photo book that came with the 1986 release, newly written liner notes, and a jacket-design pouch (red jacket); and the "COMPLETE BOX," which brings together all three formats of CD / LP / cassette at once, includes, in addition to the reproduced photo book, newly written liner notes, and the jacket-design pouch (red jacket), a reduced-size reproduction of the tour pamphlet from that time and the limited pamphlet sold only on the day at Budokan, two kinds of bonus can badges, and a newly designed original tote bag. A precious item that can appeal not only to BOOWY fans nationwide who could not obtain it because of the limited release at the time, but also to generations who could not experience BOOWY in real time. We hope you will pick it up and give it a listen. This is the SHM-CD Limited Edition.
