In 2026, the global project "COLTRANE 100" commemorating the 100th anniversary of John Coltrane's birth begins. At its core, the unreleased live recording "The Tiberi Tapes," long spoken of as legendary, is finally officially released. Recorded at clubs in New York and Philadelphia between 1961 and 1965, this sound source is a valuable document capturing a period when Coltrane's music continued to change constantly. The recordings are made by saxophonist Frank Tiberi. Deeply struck by the club performances, he brings in his own equipment and continues recording Coltrane's performances. For many years, the tapes are passed down as treasured sound sources known only among a very limited circle, and they have attracted great interest as materials offering a glimpse of Coltrane's performances at his peak and part of his musical thinking. This work, "The Tiberi Tapes: Introduction," is an advance release containing two previously unreleased performances from those recordings and is a special project released as a CD only in the Japanese edition. More free and expanded performances in the space of a club, unlike studio recordings, bring listeners close to the core of Coltrane's improvisational expression. The complete edition containing the full scope of these recordings is scheduled for release in September 2026.
